Shri Sutji said - O great sages! Now I will tell the rest of the story again, you all listen. In ancient times there was a king named Ulkamukha. He was self-controlled, truthful and very intelligent. That learned king used to go to the temple every day and satisfy the Brahmins by giving money. His wife with a face like a lotus was endowed with virtues like modesty, humility and beauty and was devoted to her husband. One day the king was observing the fast of Shri Satyanarayan on the bank of Bhadrashila river with his wife. At the same time a merchant named Sadhu, who was rich with a lot of money from many types of business, came there. He anchored his boat on the bank of Bhadrashila river and went near the king and seeing the king initiated into that fast, he started asking politely. The Sadhu said - King! What are you doing with a devotional mind? Please tell me all that, I want to listen at this time. The king said - O Sadhu! With the desire of getting a son etc., I am fasting and worshipping the Lord Vishnu, who is endowed with immense glory, along with my relatives. On hearing the king's words, the saint respectfully said - O King! Please tell me everything about this matter in detail, I will fast and worship as you say. I too do not have a child. 'This will definitely give a child.' Thinking so, he retired from his business and came back to his home happily. He told his wife in detail about this Satyavrat, which gives a child, and - 'When I get a child, then I will do this fast' - the saint said this to his wife Lilavati. One day his virtuous and faithful wife named Lilavati happily indulged in her seasonal religious duties with her husband and with the grace of Lord Sri Satyanarayan, his wife became pregnant. In the tenth month, a girl child was born to her and she started growing day by day like the moon of the bright fortnight. That girl was named 'Kalavati'. After this, one day Lilavati said to her husband in a sweet voice - Why are you not observing the fast of Shri Satyanarayan as resolved earlier? The saint said - 'Dear! I will observe the fast at the time of her marriage.' Thus, after assuring his wife well, he went towards the city to do business. Meanwhile, the girl Kalavati started growing in her father's house. Thereafter, the religious saint, seeing his daughter of marriageable age playing with her friends in the city, consulted with himself and sent a messenger quickly, saying 'Search for the best groom for the daughter's marriage.' After getting his permission, the messenger went to a city named Kanchan and brought a merchant's son from there. Seeing that the merchant's son was handsome and full of virtues, the saint, with the people of his caste and relatives, happily gave the daughter in the hands of the merchant's son as per the rituals. At that time, that saintly merchant, unfortunately, forgot to perform that great fast of Lord Satyanarayan. As he did not observe the fast at the time of marriage as per his earlier resolution, the Lord became angry with him. After some time, that saintly merchant, skilled in his business, went to a beautiful city named Ratnasarpur situated near the sea to do business with his son-in-law at the behest of time and started doing business there with his wealthy son-in-law. After that, both of them went to that beautiful city of King Chandraketu. At that very time, Lord Sri Satyanarayan, seeing him unrepentant, cursed him saying, 'He will have to face terrible, difficult and great sorrow'. One day, a thief stole King Chandraketu's wealth and came to the place where both the merchants were situated. Seeing the messengers running after him, he left the money there and quickly hid himself. After this, the messengers of the king came to the place where the saintly merchant was. Seeing the wealth of the king, the messengers tied up the two merchants' sons and brought them back. Running happily, they said to the king - 'Prabhu! We have caught two thieves, please give your orders after seeing them'. By the order of the king, both of them were quickly tied up firmly and thrown into the great prison without thinking. Due to the illusion of Lord Satyadev, no one listened to them and King Chandraketu took away their wealth as well. Due to the curse of God, the merchant's wife also became very sad and the thief stole all the wealth in their house. Lilavati, suffering from physical and mental pain, suffering from hunger and thirst, started wandering from door to door in the worry of food. Kalavati, the girl, also started roaming here and there every day for food. One day, suffering from hunger, Kalavati went to a house. Going there, she saw the fast and worship of Shri Satyanarayan. Sitting there, she listened to the story and asked for a boon. After that, she took the prasad and went home late at night. The mother lovingly asked the girl Kalavati - Daughter! Where did you stay at night? What is on your mind? The girl Kalavati immediately said to the mother - Mother! I have seen a wish-fulfilling fast in a house. On hearing this from the girl, the merchant's wife got ready to observe the fast and with a happy heart, that pious lady obser
