Ekadashi fast is considered to be of special importance in Hinduism. Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month is called Rama Ekadashi. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and his better half Mata Lakshmi on this day brings happiness, prosperity, grandeur and freedom from sins in life. This Ekadashi is considered to destroy all sins and provide salvation.

  • Recite Vishnu Sahasranama and Lakshmi Stotra.
  • Keep fast throughout the day and stay awake at night and sing bhajans.
  • Break the fast on Dwadashi the next day and do charity.

According to the Puranas, once there was a king named Muchukunda in the Chandravansh. His daughter Chandrabhaga was married to a prince named Shankha. Shankha kept a fast on Rama Ekadashi and worshiped Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. Due to the effect of the fast, he attained divine world. This story proves that the fast of Rama Ekadashi ends all the sorrows of life and provides happiness and prosperity. By observing the Rama Ekadashi fast, Lakshmi resides in the house and all the troubles of the person are removed. One who observes this fast with faith and devotion never has to face poverty in life and attains salvation.
