Satyanarayan Bhagwan Ki Katha: Chapter Two

shri-satyanarayan

Shrisutji said - O Brahmins! Now I will tell you in detail about the person who had performed this Satyanarayan fast in the past. There was a very poor Brahmin living in a beautiful city called Kashi. Troubled by hunger and thirst, he used to wander on the earth every day. Seeing that sad Brahmin, God took the form of an old man and respectfully asked that Brahmin - O Brahmin! Why do you roam on the earth every day being very sad? O best of Brahmins! Tell me all this, I want to hear it. The Brahmin said - Lord! I am very poor and roam on the earth only for alms. If you know any way to remove this poverty of mine, then please tell me. The old man said - O God! Satyanarayan Lord Vishnu is the one who gives the desired result. O Brahmin! You should perform his best fast, by doing which a man becomes free from all sorrows. After carefully explaining the rules of the fast, Lord Vishnu in the form of an old man disappeared from there. Thinking that he would observe the fast as told by the old man, he could not sleep at night. The next day he got up in the morning and resolved to observe the fast of Satyanarayana and set out for alms. That day he got a lot of money in alms. With that money he observed the fast of Lord Satyanarayana along with his friends and relatives. Due to the effect of this fast, that great man became free from all sorrows and became full of all the wealth. From that day onwards, he observed this fast every month. Thus, by observing this fast of Lord Satyanarayana, that great man became free from all sins and attained the rare state of salvation. O Brahmin! Whenever any person on earth observes the fast of Shri Satyanarayana, all his sorrows will be destroyed at that very moment. ! In this way, whatever Lord Narayana said to Mahatma Naradji, I have told all that to you people, what else should I say now? O sage! Who on this earth observed this fast that he heard from him? We want to hear all about it, we have faith in that fast. Shri Sut ji said - O sages! You people listen to the one who observed this fast on earth. Once that great Brahmin prepared to observe the fast with his friends and family members according to his wealth. Meanwhile, a woodcutter came there and went to that Brahmin's house after keeping the wood outside. Troubled by thirst, he saw him observing the fast and bowed to him and said - Prabhu! What are you doing, what is the result of doing this, tell me in detail. The Brahmin said - This is the fast of Satyanarayan, which fulfils all the wishes. It is due to his influence that I have received all this great wealth and grains etc. After drinking water and taking the prasad, he went to the city. For Satyanarayan Dev, he started thinking in his mind that 'Today, whatever money I will get by selling wood, I will do the best fast of Lord Satyanarayan with that money.' Thinking like this in his mind, he kept the wood on his head and went to that beautiful city, where rich people lived. That day he got double the price of the wood. After this, with a happy heart, he came to his house with ripe banana fruit, sugar, ghee, milk and wheat powder in one and a quarter quantity. After that, he called his relatives and did the fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan with proper rituals. Due to the effect of that fast, he became rich and had a son and after enjoying many pleasures in this world, finally went to Satyapur i.e. Vaikunthalok. After saying this to the king in his dream, Lord Satyanarayana disappeared. After this, in the morning, the king sat in the assembly with his courtiers and told his dream to the people and said - 'Release both the captive merchants' sons soon.' On hearing such words of the king, the king's men freed the two merchants from bondage and brought them in front of the king and said politely - 'Maharaj! Both the merchants' sons have been brought after being freed from the shackles. After this, both the merchants bowed to the great king Chandraketu and remembering their past, became terrified and could not say anything. The king, on seeing the merchants' sons, said respectfully - 'You people have got this great sorrow due to destiny, now there is no fear.' Saying this, he got their shackles opened and got them shaved etc. The king satisfied both the merchants' sons by giving them clothes and ornaments and calling them in front, made them very happy with his words. He returned the money he had taken earlier, double the amount. After that, the king again said to them - 'Sages! Now you may go to your home.' After saluting the king and saying 'With your blessings, we are leaving.' - both the great Vaishyas left for their home.
