Shani Pradosh fast is especially observed to worship Lord Shani. This fast is considered to be especially good for worship on Trayodashi Tithi of every month, which is the day of Pradosh fast, and that day also falls on Saturday (Saturn). Shani Pradosh fast provides relief from the ill effects of Saturn and brings happiness and peace in a person's life. On this day, the fasting person worships Lord Shiva and Shani Dev.

Once upon a time, a poor Brahmin family lived in a small village. The name of the Brahmin was Shivnath. He was a very simple, truthful and religious person. But his financial condition was very bad, and he was always troubled. Someone told him that the troubles in his life were happening due to the planet Saturn. The Brahmin took this seriously and started taking measures to get the blessings of Shani Dev. One day the Brahmin heard that if a person observes Shani Pradosh fast, then one can get relief from the ill effects of Shani and prosperity can come in the person's life. The Brahmin decided that he would observe Shani Pradosh fast. He observed fast on Shani Pradosh day with full rules and devotion. He took bath and worshipped Lord Shankar and offered oil, black sesame, black clothes and honey in front of the picture of Shani Dev.Life of Brahmin after fasting
The Brahmin observed the fast with all his heart, devotion and faith. From then on, miraculous changes started coming in his life. He gradually became blessed and there was happiness and peace in his family. By the grace of Shani Dev, his poverty was removed, and he got relief from all troubles. One day Shani Dev himself came to the Brahmin's house and said, "You observed Pradosh fast with devotion and faith, due to which all the troubles from your life have ended. Rules of the fast
- Observe Shani Pradosh Vrat on Trayodashi Tithi on Saturday.
- Fast throughout the day, and especially worship Shiva at night.
- Use black sesame seeds, oil, honey, blue cloth, and urad dal for the worship of Shani Dev.

- Take bath in the morning and worship Lord Shankar.
- Offer oil, sesame seeds, and black clothes in front of the picture or idol of Shani Dev.
- Chant the mantra "Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah".
