Sarva Pitru Amavasya : Importance, Shraddha Method And Date
Sarva Pitru Amavasya, also known as Mahalaya Amavasya, is the last date of Pitru Paksha. On this day, performing Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan for all ancestors has special significance.
In Hinduism, this day is considered an opportunity to perform Shradh for all those ancestors whose death date is not known or whose Shradh is left due to some reason.
Importance of Sarva Pitru Amavasya
- On this day, Tarpan and Pinddaan are performed for the peace of the soul of the ancestors.

- Take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.
- Perform Tarpan with black sesame seeds, Kusha, water and barley.
- Remembering the names of ancestors, Tarpan should be performed facing south.
- Feeding Brahmins and giving donations is considered auspicious on this day.
