ganesh-ji

In Hindu scriptures, Kalpa and Manvantara have special importance. There are 14 Manvantaras in a Kalpa. In each Manvantara, there is a mention of one Manu, one Indra, different Saptarishi and special deities.

What is Manvantara?

"Manvantara" has special importance in the time calculation of Hinduism. One Kalpa (one day of Brahma) is divided into 14 parts and each part is called Manvantara. Each Manvantara is governed by a particular Manu, after whom that Manvantara is named. Each Manvantara has different Indras, Saptarishis and groups of deities. Thus, Manvantara is not only a unit of time but also a symbol of the rulers, deities and sages of that era. Currently we are in the seventh Vaivasvata Manvantara, which is named after Suryaputra Vaivasvata Manu.
