The eighth day of Navratri is considered highly auspicious for worshipping Goddess Mahagauri. Her form is delicate, radiant, and white. She bestows immense peace, prosperity, and happiness upon her devotees. Ashtami is also known as Maha Ashtami, and worshipping girls on this day holds special significance.
Appearance of Goddess Mahagauri
- Maa Mahagauri's body is as bright as snow.
- Her vehicle is a bull.
- She has four hands—one holds a trident, another a damaru, and the remaining two are in the var and abhaya mudras.
- She loves milk and white clothes.
Worship Method
- Take a bath in the morning and take a vow to observe the fast.
- Offer fragrance, unbroken rice grains, flowers, and white clothes to the idol/picture of Goddess Mahagauri.
- It is auspicious to offer them white flowers and offerings made of milk.
- Recite the eighth chapter of Durga Saptashati.
- Worship the girls and receive their blessings by offering them food and gifts.
- Chant the mantra:
