The seventh day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Maa Kaalratri. Maa Kaalratri is considered a destructive force, destroying all fears and sufferings of her devotees. Worshiping her dispels the darkness of ignorance and bestows knowledge and power.
Appearance of Maa Kaalratri
- Maa Kaalratri has a black complexion and is extremely radiant.
- Her vehicle is a donkey.
- She has four hands – one holds a sword, the other a thunderbolt, the third grants boons, and the fourth grants protection.
- Flames of fire emanate from her breath.
Method of Worship
- Take a bath and vow to observe the fast.
- Offer fragrance, unbroken rice grains, incense, lamps, and flowers to the idol/picture of Maa Kaalratri.
- She loves red flowers.
- Offering jaggery and barley is considered auspicious.
- Chant the mantra:
Om Devi Kalaratriye Namah
- Recite the seventh chapter of Durga Saptashati.
