The fourth day of Sharadiya Navratri is considered special for the worship of Goddess Kushmanda. Goddess Kushmanda is considered the Adishakti of creation. It is believed that she created the universe with her divine laughter (Kushmanda).
Form of Goddess Kushmanda
- Mother Kushmanda has eight arms, hence she is also called Ashtabhuja Devi.
- Her hands are adorned with a lotus, bow and arrow, a pot of nectar, a kamandalu, a chakra, and a mace.
- Her vehicle is a lion, which symbolizes power and valor.
Method of worship
- Take a bath in the morning and take a vow to observe the fast.
- Install an idol or picture of Goddess Kushmanda and worship her with fragrance, flowers, incense, and a lamp.
- Offer kumkum, unbroken rice grains, and a garland to the Goddess.
- Offer her favorite food – Malpua or sweet food.
- Chant the mantra:
Om Devi Kushmandaayai Namah
- Reciting the fourth chapter of Durga Saptashati is extremely auspicious and fruitful.
