Kistughna Karana is one of the 11 Karanas in the Hindu calendar. It is a fixed and special Karana that occurs only in the last phase of Amavasya Tithi.

Enduring Karana
Kistughna literally means “End of Suffering”. This Karana occurs at the end of Amavasya, which indicates the end of negative energies and brings peace.
Religious Significance
Kistughna Karana is especially used for spiritual practices, Pitra Tarpan and works to end negativity.
Work and Auspiciousness
This Karana is not considered auspicious. Auspicious works like marriage, Griha Pravesh, or starting new works should be avoided. However, this time is considered suitable for removing negative energies and doing Sadhana.
Related Tithi
Kistughna Karana appears only in Amavasya Tithi. It depends on the time of moon rise and set.

Work done in this Karana can have long term results. It is suitable for spiritual activities like meditation and yoga.
