Sandhi Puja is considered to be the most special Puja performed during Durga Puja and Navratri. This Puja is performed at the Sandhikaal (middle time) of Ashtami and Navami Tithi. This time is considered to be extremely auspicious and powerful, because Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura during this Sandhi Kaal.
The time of Sandhi Puja is very limited – a total of 48 minutes (24 minutes of Ashtami and 24 minutes of Navami). During this time 108 lamps, 108 lotus or Aparajita flowers and sacrifices (kumhra, banana, coconut etc.) are offered to Maa Durga. It is performed with special grandeur in Bengal and Eastern India.
