This festival symbolizes the victory of Chamundeshwari, the goddess of power, and is celebrated on the Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. During this time, Amba Vilas Palace (Mysore Palace) of Mysore is decorated with glittering lights and the whole city becomes festive.
History of Mysore Dussehra
It started in the Vijayanagara Empire (15th century). Later the Wadiyar dynasty took this tradition forward. It is believed that Goddess Chamundeshwari established Dharma by killing the demon Mahishasura. This festival is celebrated with great pomp every year to commemorate this victory.
