Dakshin Saraswati Puja - Importance, Vidhi And Tradition

Dakshin Saraswati Puja is a special religious ritual celebrated in South India. This puja is mainly performed during Navratri and is also called "Saraswati Pujai" or "Vidyarambham". Maa Saraswati is considered the presiding goddess of knowledge, learning, music and art. This tradition is performed with great reverence and devotion in South India, especially in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.

Method

• Maa Saraswati is worshipped on the last three days of Navratri.
• Books, musical instruments and study material are placed in front of the goddess and worshipped.
• Special worship of the Goddess is done on Ashtami and Navami.
• On Dashami day "Vidyarambham" or "Ezhuthiniruthal" (beginning of writing) is held.
• Small children start writing "OM" or alphabets on rice plates or slates with the guidance of a Guru.
