Sati was married to Shiva, which was unexpected even for the gods as Shiva was an ascetic and simple-living god. Yagna and Sati's self-immolation
Daksha Prajapati organized a huge yagya, to which he did not invite Shiva and Sati. When Sati came to know about this, she reached the yagya without invitation. Daksha insulted Shiva at the yagna site and Sati could not tolerate the insult of her husband. Hurt by the insult and anger, Sati jumped into the yagna fire and gave up her life.
Wrath of Shiva
After Sati's death, Shiva in anger created Veerbhadra and Bhadrakali and ordered them to destroy Daksha's yagna. Veerbhadra destroyed the yagna and beheaded Daksha. Later, on the request of Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva gave life to Daksha and gave him the head of a goat.
