Mokshada Ekadashi Fast Story: Importance, Worship Method And Benefits
Mokshada Ekadashi fast holds special significance in Hinduism. This fast is observed on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month, which is especially done to worship Lord Shri Krishna and attain salvation with his blessings. It is also called 'Ganga Ekadashi' because on this day there is a tradition of bathing in the holy water of Ganga. The fast of Mokshada Ekadashi is highly fruitful and it liberates a person from all the troubles of life and makes him attain salvation.
Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat Katha
There is a very famous story in the Puranas regarding Mokshada Ekadashi, listening to which the devotion and faith of Lord Shri Krishna increases in the minds of devotees. This story is related to the life of a Brahmin.
According to the story, once upon a time, a Brahmin family lived in a city. The name of the Brahmin was Vasudev and he was a very pious and religious person. He used to observe all the fasts regularly, but he had a desire to attain salvation. One day he asked his Guru, "Guruji, which fast should I observe to attain salvation?"
The Guru advised Vasudev to observe the Mokshada Ekadashi fast. The Guru said, "O Brahmin! This Ekadashi fast provides salvation. If you observe it with a true heart, all your sins will end and you will be able to attain salvation."
Vasudev obeyed the Guru and observed the Mokshada Ekadashi fast. He fasted the whole day, meditated on Lord Shri Krishna and stayed awake all night singing bhajans and kirtans. He observed this fast with full heart, devotion and faith.
Vasudev's life after the fast
Vasudev observed the Mokshada Ekadashi fast with a true heart and as a result his life changed. Fasting on Ekadashi day destroyed all sins and Vasudev got the darshan of Lord Shri Krishna. God blessed him that now he will get salvation in this birth itself and will cross the Bhavasagar.
Vasudev as well as his family became happy and prosperous due to the effect of this fast. They did not face any kind of trouble and they could spend their life peacefully.
This story proves that by observing the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi, all the sins of a person are destroyed and he attains salvation with the blessings of God.

Vrat Rules
- Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat is observed on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month.
- Stay fasting on this day and meditate on Lord Shri Krishna.
- Stay awake at night and participate in Bhajan-Kirtan.
Worship Material
- Idol or picture of Lord Shri Krishna, lamp, Tulsi leaves, Akshat, flowers, fruits, Modak, milk, curd, Panchamrit, Gangajal.
Worship Method
- On this day, after taking bath in the morning, meditate on Lord Shri Krishna and worship him.
- Sprinkle Gangajal on the picture or idol of Lord Shri Krishna and worship him.
- Chant the mantra "Om Shri Krishnaay Namah".
- Fast throughout the day and sing Bhajans at night.
- On the last day of the fast (on Dwadashi), break the fast and feed the poor.
Importance of Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat
- Destruction of sins and attainment of salvation:
- By observing this fast, all sins are destroyed and the person attains salvation.
