Ganesha Katha: As The Gatekeeper

In the fourth (Kumar) section of Rudrasamhita in Shivapuran, it is described that before taking a bath, Goddess Parvati created a child from her dirt and made him her gatekeeper. When Lord Shiva wanted to enter, the child stopped him. On this, Shivganas fought a fierce battle with the child but no one could defeat him in the battle. Finally, Lord Shankar got angry and cut off the head of that child with his trident. This made Goddess Shiva furious and she decided to cause destruction. The frightened gods, on the advice of Devarshi Narad, pacified her by praising Jagadamba. [4] On the instructions of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu brought the head of the first living creature (elephant) he found in the north direction. Mrityunjay Rudra placed the head of the elephant on the body of the child and revived him. Mother Parvati, overwhelmed with joy, embraced the elephant-faced child to her heart and blessed him to be the leader among the gods. Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh declared that boy as the head of all and gave him the boon of being the first to be worshipped. Lord Shankar said to the boy- Girijaanandan! Your name will be the foremost in removing obstacles. You become the head of all my Ganas by becoming the one who is worshipped by all. Ganesh, you were born on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month when the moon rose. All the obstacles of the one who observes fast on this date will be destroyed and he will get all the Siddhis. On the night of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi, after worshipping you Ganesh at the time of moonrise, the fasting person should offer Arghya to the moon and feed sweets to the Brahmin. After that he himself should also eat sweet food. The wish of the one who observes the fast of Shri Ganesh Chaturthi throughout the year is definitely fulfilled.
