Vedic Astrology | Secrets And Wisdom Of Siddhanta Jyotish

Siddhanta Jyotish is that part of Vedic astrology which is based on the rules of astronomy and calculation. It is also called "Ganit Jyotish". It studies the movement, position and time of planets, constellations, moon, sun and other celestial bodies. It is considered to be the most ancient and scientific part of astrology, because mathematical and astronomical rules are used to measure and understand astrological events.

Main subjects of Siddhanta Jyotish

Siddhanta Jyotish studies many aspects, the main ones being:
1. Panchang Nirman
  • Panchang is the Hindu calendar, in which the day, date, constellation, yoga, karana, and position of planets are given.
  • Siddhanta Jyotish provides all the calculations required for the creation of Panchang.
2. Planetary Motion
  • Study of the movement of planets, their speed, and their position.
  • It includes the time of sunrise and sunset of the sun and moon.
3. Solar and Lunar Eclipses
  • Calculations for prediction of solar and lunar eclipses.
  • Determination of time, duration, and extent of eclipses.
4. Time Measurement
  • Division of time and time calculations such as days, months, years, yugas (Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga).
  • Indian time measurement system is characterized by solar year (according to the movement of the sun) and lunar year (according to the movement of the moon).
5. Geographical Studies
  • Study of the position of planets and constellations from different places on the earth.
  • In this, the time and influence of planets are determined on the basis of a particular place.
6. Study of time cycles and eras
  • Calculation of the cycles of Satyayuga, Tretayuga, Dwaparayuga and Kaliyuga.
  • Study of historical and astronomical events based on these cycles.

Surya Siddhanta:
  1. This is the most ancient and important text of Siddhanta Jyotish.
  2. It describes in detail the movement of celestial bodies, their mathematical principles and their position.
Aryabhatiya
  1. Written by the great astronomer and mathematician Aryabhata.
  2. It gives methods of calculating time, eclipses and the movement of planets.
Brahmagupta's Brahmasphuta Siddhanta
It gives many rules of astronomy and mathematics.
Laghu Siddhanta
It gives a brief description of the movement of planets and constellations is.

Instruments used in Siddhanta Jyotish

Many instruments were used in ancient times for astronomical calculations in Siddhanta Jyotish, such as:
  1. Samrat Yantra: To measure time.
  2. Dhruva Yantra: To measure the position of planets.
  3. Jal Yantra: Study of the influence of time and planets.
  4. Jantar Mantar: Famous ancient observatory for astronomical studies.

Importance of Siddhanta Jyotish

  1. Prediction of astronomical events: Accurate calculation of eclipses, phases of the moon, and other astronomical events.
  2. Time and period calculation: Panchangam creation and determination of different eras.
  3. Scientific approach: It is the basis of astrology and astronomy.
  4. Basis of astrological rituals: The time and planetary positions calculated in Siddhanta Jyotish are used to find auspicious Muhurats.
Siddhanta Jyotish in modern context
In today's time, Siddhanta Jyotish is being combined with astronomy. It provides a scientific basis for astrological prediction. Software and digital tools have made this science more simple and accurate.
