In mythology, according to Hindu scriptures, Yudhisthira asked Lord Krishna, Lord, please tell me a fast that will relieve the sufferings of human beings and make them rich and have sons. Lord Krishna replied, “O Dharmaraja Yudhisthira ! I am very pleased with your question, the answer to your question will be public welfare, then Lord Krishna told Yudhisthira the story of Santan Saptami Vrata and said how by following the Vrata humans will get worthy children, children There will be welfare and relief of suffering. He further said that a long time ago the omniscient sage Sri Lomesh arrived in Mathura, my mother and father showed great respect to the sage, pleased with their respect, the sage told my parents were killed by Kansha, from the pain of their sons To get out, children asked to observe the seventh fast and told how King Nahusha and Queen Chandramukhi followed this fast and their sons did not die, you will also follow this fast and come out of the pain of son-shock, so much to hear After this, Mata Devakī joined hands with Rishi Lomesh and requested him to tell her in detail about Santan Saptami Vrata, so that she could come out of the pain of grief by observing this Vrata. Then Rishi Lomesh said to Devakī's mother, “O Devakī, listen, I am going to tell you the story of Santan Saptami Vrata. Please listen to this story carefully.”
In the past, King Nahusha ruled the city of Ayodhya with remarkable glory and equality. His queen, Chandramukhi, was extremely beautiful. In his region lived a Brahmin named Vishnudatta with his wife Rupavati. Rani Chandramukhi and the Brahmin's wife had a close relationship and they often spent considerable time with each other.
On a particular day, he went on a pilgrimage to take a bath in the holy waters of the river Sarayu. Coincidentally, it was Santan Saptami that day. While taking a dip in the river water, he saw other women making idols of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva, engaging in religious rituals to worship them. Pleased with this scene, he inquired about the significance of this worship. The women clarified, “O Queen! We are observing the Santan Saptami fast, which brings happiness, prosperity and the divine boon of children. After worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, we perform a sacred ritual. A lifelong commitment to maintain this vow, symbolized by tying a thread to Lord Shiva.” Thus, from those women explained the method of fasting.
After learning about the fast from the women, they both tied a thread to Lord Shiva and promised to maintain this fast for the rest of their lives. However, the Brahmin's wife Rupavati observed the vow and unfortunately, Queen Chandramukhi forgot about her promise. A few years later when they both died, they were reborn in the womb of animals, in this birth they both endured many hardships, in this birth the queen did not remember anything about the child seventh fast as in the previous birth but of the Brahmin His wife Rupavati knew about the Santan Saptami Vrata and she started observing the Santan Saptami Vrata in the animal womb. After a few years, they both died. They were born several times. In which Queen Chandramukhi is born as a daughter in the king's house and the Brahmin's wife Rupvati is also born as a daughter in the house of a Brahmin. When they grow up, they get married.
Like in the previous birth, in this birth, the queen did not remember anything about Santan Saptami Vrat, which is why the queen did not have any children, a few years later the queen gave birth to a dumb, deaf, unintelligible boy who what He lived only for a year, the reason for all this was that the Queen did not remember anything about the Santan Saptami Vrata, meanwhile the Brahmin's wife Rupavati knew about the Santan Saptami Vrata, she observed the regular Vrata and gave birth to eight sons All of them were worthy, intelligent and strong, since even in this life they were acquainted with each other, so Rupavati, the wife of the Brahmin, thought of meeting the queen with her sons, to leave their sons with the queen for a few days , so that the mind of the queen may be distracted, thinking she goes to the queen, the queen because of her excessive sorrow and jealousy, the queen having evil intentions towards the wife of the Brahmin and wishing to harm his sons, the queen fed them But poison was added, all the Brahmin sons ate the food mixed with poison but the surprising thing is that the effect of the fast of the Brahmin's wife eliminated the effect of the poison. The queen was filled with extreme anger and jealousy. In anger, he ordered his servants to throw the sons of the Brahmin into the deep waters of the Yamuna River.
But this time too, under the influence of the Santan Saptami vow, the servants of the queen could do nothing to the children, despite the queen's repeated attempts to kill them. Now the queen's patience answered, and she directed her executioners to carry out the order to kill those children. The servants took them to the executioners, but once again, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati intervened, and protected the sons of Rupavati with their merciful grace.Upon learning of this miraculous turn of events, the Queen began to consider whether it was a davian intervention or not. He humbly apologized to Rupavati for his grave mistake and disclosed his failed attempts to harm Rupavati's sons. The queen solemnly sought an explanation from Rupavati, who then reminded her of the vows of her previous life.
Rupavati explained how, in their first incarnation, they were friends and had vowed to observe the Santan Saptami fast. Unfortunately, Queen You failed to fulfill this promise. However, in this present life, Rupavati had sincerely observed the Santan Saptami vow, and she credited Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati for all the blessings and protection given to her sons, as well as the effects of that vow.
Hearing the story of Rupavati, Queen Chandramukhi also remembered the importance of the fast and decided to observe the Muktabharana fast with all the prescribed rituals. Miraculously, as a result of this vow, the queen was blessed with a healthy and handsome son. Since that time, women observe Santan Saptami Vrat to be blessed with having children and ensuring their safety.
