“Agajananam Padmarkam” is a very sacred verse in praise of Lord Ganesha, which is recited at the beginning of every auspicious event. This verse removes all obstacles and provides success in work.

Verse

Agajananam Padmarkam Gajananam Ahishesham. Ekadantam Mahakayam Tam Namami Guneshwaram.

Meaning

“Agja” means Goddess Parvati (who is the daughter of Himalaya). “Padmarkam”means – one who is as bright as the sun. The meaning of this shloka is – “I bow to Lord Ganesha, the son of Goddess Parvati, who has an elephant-like face, a huge body, and is the master of all virtues.”

Significance of the shloka

  • This shloka is recited before every auspicious work, puja, yajna, or initiation.
  • It reminds us that for success, it is necessary to first seek the blessings of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.
  • Reciting it provides mental peace, increased wisdom, and success in work.

Benefits of reciting it

    Method of Recitation

    Every morning, after bathing, face east and recite this shloka 11 or 21 times. Light a lamp in front of Ganesha and recite the mantra “Om Gan Ganpataye Namah”. The shloka “Agajananam Padmarakam” is short yet very powerful. It inspires us to begin our lives with humility, devotion, and positive energy.
