Raghupati Raghav Rajaram: Bhajan symbolizing devotion and peace
The bhajan "Raghupati Raghav Rajaram, Patit Pavan Sitaram" is a famous and sacred song of the Indian devotional tradition. This bhajan is sung in praise of Lord Shri Ram and was adopted by Mahatma Gandhi as a message of truth and non-violence during his freedom struggle.
In this bhajan, Lord Rama is described as "Raghupati" i.e. the lord of Raghu clan and "Patit Pavan" i.e. the liberator of all sins. This song not only awakens religious sentiments but also gives a message of love, peace and dedication. Mahatma Gandhi used to sing it in prayer meetings, making this bhajan a symbol of the non-violent movement of the Father of the Nation.
"Ishwar Allah Tere Naam, Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan" – this line expresses the feeling of Sarvadharma Sambhaav, which teaches to consider all religions as equal. This bhajan is still sung with reverence and devotion in temples, satsangs and devotional events. "Raghupati Raghava Rajaram" teaches us love, compassion and religious tolerance.
