Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi - Bhadrapad Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Katha
Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. This fast is dedicated to Lord Ganesh and observing it removes all the troubles in a person's life. "Sankashti" means freedom from troubles, and worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day destroys all kinds of problems.
Fast Story
It is a story from ancient times. Once the gods and sages came to Lord Ganesha and started praying. They said, "Oh Lord Ganesha! Many kinds of troubles come in our life. Please show us a way by which we can be free from troubles."
Lord Ganesha was pleased and said, "Whoever observes my fast on the Chaturthi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of Bhadrapada month and offers water to the moon at night, all the troubles in his life will be removed. This fast will be known as Sankashti Chaturthi."
At this time, a boy was born in a Brahmin family. The boy was very religious and devoted to devotion. But one day he contracted leprosy, which greatly distressed him. His parents suggested he observe the Sankashti Chaturthi fast. The boy observed the fast with devotion and regularity.
As a result of the fast, Lord Ganesha appeared before him, and his leprosy was cured. After this, the boy lived a healthy and happy life.
Method of the fast
- Morning Bath: Wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
- Resolution: Take a vow to fast before Lord Ganesha.
- Puja: Light a lamp in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha and offer Durva (sunflower), Laddu (sweet), flowers, sandalwood paste, and Modak (a sweet dish made of wood).
- Mantra: Chant "Om Gan Ganpataye Namah."
- Katha Shravan: Listen to or read the Ganesh Chaturthi fast story.
- Night Worship: Offer Arghya to the Moon.
- Fast Breaking: Break the fast the next morning by feeding Brahmins.
Significance of the Fast
By observing the Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi fast, all suffering, disease, and financial difficulties are removed by the grace of Lord Ganesha. Happiness, prosperity, and peace come into one's life.
Lord Ganesha is the remover of all obstacles. Devotees who observe this fast are never troubled.
