Basant Panchami, also called Vasant Panchami or Shri Panchami, is a Hindu festival that marks the beginning of the spring season. The festival is celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of the month of Magha, which usually falls in January or February. This day is considered especially important for the worship of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, arts, and music.

Yellow color is a symbol of spring season and people wear yellow clothes on this day. Yellow colored dishes like turmeric-rice, saffron sweets, etc. are also made in food.

Kite flying is also organized on this day in many places, especially in North India. This is a fun activity that makes this festival even more special.

Agriculture and Crops:

The time of Basant Panchami is important for the preparation of crops and sowing of new crops. Farmers perform Puja in their fields on this day and pray for good crop production.

Various cultural events are organized which include dance, music, and other artistic performances. People visit each other's houses and distribute sweets and celebrate.
