Pitru Paksha (Shraddha Paksha) is that fortnight of Hindu calendar when tarpan, pinddaan and shraddha are performed by remembering the ancestors. This period starts from Bhadrapada Purnima every year and continues till Sarva Pitru Amavasya.
During this period, all the people perform rituals with devotion for the peace of the soul of their ancestors.
Importance of Pitru Paksha

- For happiness, prosperity and progress in the family.
- It is believed that the ancestors get pleased and bless the family.
Shraddha method
- Take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.
- Facing the south direction, perform tarpan with kusha, sesame, barley and water.
- Feeding Brahmins and giving donations is considered auspicious.
- It is mandatory to do good deeds at home and remember the ancestors.
